Onehundred and fiftyfour miles of river from Cricklade to London Bridge, of course the river goes down stream below London Bridge but I have not got this information to hand at the time of writing this introduction to the river, but should you be interested there are photos on the other Thames pages.
As you can see from the map the river is a most meandering water course, so much so that the distance between some towns is much shorter by road than water.
This page as most on the site is heavily illustrated and takes time to download, so be patient and enjoy it when you get there.
Streatley from the bridge.
Streatley is in Berkshire, Goring and Streatley are united by a bridge crossing a network of foaming waters, this makes for one of the most picturesque of the the resorts on the Thames.
GORING LOCK

Goring is on the Oxfordshire side of the river. There is a good Norman Church in Goring, it is a growing resort, with holiday bungalows along the banks.
A gigantic yew tree in the church yard is worth seeing, the church also has some interesting brasses in it.
There is a post office near the bridge, and a welcome cafe.
BENSON WEIR

As you can see from the photograph this is a peaceful place, the nearest pub is the White Hart Hotel.
A walk from the lock across this weir is quite invigorating.
At this point we are close to the Chilterns, and there is a good chance that we will see some Red Kites circling overhead.
